The film chronicles the work of choreographer and dancers on the stage in Minneapolis preceding the premiere of Trisha Brown’s Lateral Pass in 1985. Involving a complex set and colorful costumes by Nancy Graves, choreography by Trisha Brown, and improvised music by Peter Zummo, the film follows the dynamic between dancers, choreographer and the stage apparatus.
The Black & White images as well as the color video footage were shot in 1985 at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, where the choreography by Trisha Brown and the set by Nancy Graves were finalized by the Company between August 14 and September 2, 1985. The color video footage of those rehearsals in progress, were edited in 2013 for a Nancy Graves show at the Ludwig Museum in Aachen, Germany.
